The Logistics Associate Apprenticeship Awards & Mentor Graduation Ceremony took place last Thursday at the Technological University Dublin City Campus.
At the ceremony, LAA graduate Debbie Clarke of Sysco Ireland was awarded the academic excellence award for ‘Best Logistics Apprentice 2023’ as well as ‘Best Work-based Project 2023’.
When presented with this prestigious university award, Debbie highlighted in her speech that following working for Sysco Ireland for the last six years, joining the apprenticeship program at the company enabled her to return to education and earn relevant industry qualifications.
As part of the apprenticeship’s work-based project, a core component of year 2, she gained the opportunity to network with colleagues across various departments within the company and collaborate on several initiatives designed to streamline the day-to-day operation processes and improve communication among departments.
Throughout Debbie’s apprenticeship, she was supported by the company’s mentors Tommy Moten, Marcus Felipe Huber, and Denis Brennan.
“Returning to education and the growth opportunities within the company have helped me regain my self-confidence and led to my decision to now pursue a degree at level 8 in Supply Chain Management at the university,” Debbie said.
Huge congratulations Debbie, we are beyond extremely proud. She has shown exceptional achievement and a demonstration of how apprenticeship creates a foundation and opportunity to resume education.
Last but not least, we would like to congratulate the mentor graduates, true workplace champions devoted to their apprentices success:
Ciara Cuthbert from DB Schenker,
Olivia Morgan from The Coca-Cola Company
Hendrina (Drené) Venter, Eric Whelan , Hrvoje Strnak from ATC Computer Transport & Logistics

The mentoring programme is a key element of the LAA apprenticeship. The training is provided by the university annually and on an ongoing basis to support employers and new mentors.
A special thank you and appreciation goes out to Dr. Kevin Byrne, Head of School, Declan Allen, Head of Logistics, Supply Chain, and Project Management, Yvonne Sheehan, the apprentice programme coordinator, Marese Kelly Ph.D., our exceptional mentor trainer, and Aidan Flynn, Chairman of the LAA Consortium for their participation and facilitation of the award ceremony.
